Smashing Drive is a GameCube conversion of an arcade racing game in which you drive a taxi through city streets against the clock. Each run has you racing a rival cab to a destination while traffic, buses, roadworks and pedestrians clutter the route. Rather than fixed circuits, the roads branch constantly, and much of the play is about spotting shortcuts through alleys, parks, subway tunnels and construction sites to shave seconds off your time. Power-ups scattered along the way give you temporary advantages such as speed boosts and ways to hinder your opponent. Handling is deliberately loose and crash-heavy, with jumps and collisions treated as part of the spectacle. Completing routes unlocks further courses and vehicles, and a two-player split-screen mode is included.
