The Game Boy Advance SP is a clamshell revision of the Game Boy Advance. It folds shut to protect the screen, runs on an internal rechargeable battery rather than disposable cells, and adds an illuminated screen — earlier units use a front light toggled by a button, while a later revision uses a backlit screen. Controls are a D-pad, A and B buttons, Start and Select, and L and R shoulder buttons. The cartridge slot accepts Game Boy Advance games and is backward compatible with original Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges. There is no standard headphone jack; audio output requires an adapter that connects through the charging port. The system supports link cable play with other Game Boy Advance hardware in compatible titles.
