D1 Professional Drift Grand Prix Series brings licensed Japanese drift competition to the PlayStation 2. Instead of racing for position, you are judged on how you slide: the angle of the car, the speed you carry through a corner, and how closely you follow the ideal line all feed into your score. Runs are set on courses built around sweeping bends and hairpins, and events follow a competition structure of qualifying runs and head-to-head battles where you chase or lead another driver. Cars are Japanese rear-wheel-drive coupes and sedans of the kind used in the real series, with tuning options that affect how easily the car breaks traction and how controllable it stays once sideways. Control leans on throttle and counter-steer rather than braking, so learning to hold a slide is the core skill.
