LEGO Racers 2 mixes kart-style racing with free exploration. Rather than moving from one menu-selected track to the next, you drive around themed open hub areas and find events, characters and challenges within them, taking on races to progress the story and unlock the next region. Between races you build and modify your car from LEGO parts, adding pieces you have earned to change how it looks and performs. Races use collectable power-ups that give you weapons and speed boosts to fire at rivals, and crashes can knock bricks loose from your vehicle. Alongside standard circuit races there are alternative events and challenges scattered through the hubs. The game also supports split-screen play so a second person can race alongside you on the same console.
