Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is an action game set in feudal Japan, following Soki as he fights demons alongside a group of companions. Each partner has their own weapon type and abilities, and you switch between two characters during play, using the second to reach areas or defeat enemies the other cannot handle. Combat retains the series' focus on sword strikes, blocking and counters, along with absorbing souls from defeated enemies to restore resources and strengthen weapons. The camera follows behind the character through fully 3D environments, and levels mix fighting with exploration, locked routes and puzzles that reward backtracking once you have the right partner. Weapons and characters can be upgraded between missions. The PlayStation 2 release presents the campaign across multiple chapters with boss encounters closing out areas.
