Ring of Red is a turn-based strategy game for PlayStation 2 set in an alternate history where Japan is divided after the Second World War. You command Armored Fighting Walkers, walking war machines crewed by a pilot and supported by infantry squads assigned to each unit. On the tactical map you move units over terrain in turns; when two forces meet, the view shifts to a side-on battle screen where you aim shots, account for range and elevation, and use the attached infantry to lay down fire, repair or harass the enemy machine. Terrain and weather affect movement and accuracy, and pilots and support troops carry over between missions, so preserving them matters. A story campaign links the battles together with cutscenes and dialogue between the characters.
