Robotech: Battlecry is a third-person action game for PlayStation 2 set in the Robotech universe. You pilot a Veritech fighter that transforms between three configurations: a jet-like Fighter mode for fast flight, the intermediate Guardian mode, and the humanoid Battloid mode for ground combat, each with different movement and weapon behaviour. Switching between them on the fly is central to the game, since some objectives suit high-speed flight while others call for the precision and firepower of Battloid. Missions send you against Zentraedi forces in the air, in space and over the surface, with objectives such as escorting allies, defending positions and destroying enemy craft and installations. Weapons include machine guns, missiles and lock-on ordnance. The visuals use a cel-shaded style that echoes the animated series, and voice work and mission briefings carry the story between stages.
