Virtua Fighter Remix is a reworked Sega Saturn version of the original Virtua Fighter. The main change is visual: the character models use texture-mapped polygons in place of the flat-shaded look of the earlier Saturn conversion, and the game runs with revised presentation throughout. Fighting is the early Virtua Fighter formula, built on punch, kick and guard buttons, with throws, blocking and careful spacing carrying the depth. Rounds are won by knocking an opponent out or forcing them outside the boundary of the ring, so pushing your opponent toward the edge is a tactic in itself. The roster covers a spread of martial arts styles across the original cast. Arcade play against the computer, two-player versus matches and practice options are available.
