Super R-Type is a horizontally scrolling shooter in the R-Type series. You pilot a fighter through biomechanical corridors and organic environments, facing waves of enemies and large bosses that fill much of the screen. The signature element is the Force, a detachable pod that absorbs enemy fire and can be attached to the front or rear of your ship or launched forward to fight on its own. Power-ups change your main weapon between laser types that behave very differently, bouncing off walls or snaking along surfaces. Holding the fire button charges a stronger beam. Stages are built around memorising enemy placement and terrain, and losing a life strips your upgrades, so recovery depends on careful play until new power-ups appear.
