In Harvest Moon: Back to Nature you inherit a run-down farm near Mineral Town and rebuild it over the course of several in-game years. Days are spent clearing rocks, branches and weeds, tilling soil, planting seasonal crops, watering them, and tending livestock such as cows and chickens. Produce goes into a shipping bin to earn money, which you spend on tools, animals and farm upgrades. Time passes through four seasons, and each brings different crops to grow and town festivals to attend. The townspeople keep their own routines, and you can build friendships by talking to them and giving gifts. Several young women live in and around town, and courting one can lead to marriage and a family. There is no fail state; progress comes from how you choose to spend each day.
