Survivor moves the series into a first-person shooting perspective on PlayStation. You play as a man who wakes with no memory after a helicopter crash on an island dominated by an Umbrella facility, and piece together his identity through documents and encounters as you go. Rather than fixed camera angles, you move freely in first person, aiming and firing at zombies, dogs and other bio-organic weapons while managing ammunition and healing items. Progress involves finding keys and route items, and branching paths mean choices affect which areas you visit and how the story resolves. Weapons are picked up along the way, and the game can be played with a standard controller; certain regional releases also supported a light gun peripheral. Runs are relatively short and built with multiple routes in mind.
