Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1 gathers several of Atari's early coin-op games on a single PlayStation disc. The lineup includes Asteroids, Battlezone, Centipede, Missile Command, Super Breakout, and Tempest. Each is presented in its arcade form, so play is score-focused with limited lives and steadily increasing speed rather than levels you finish. You get vector-style space combat, tank warfare viewed from inside the cockpit, bug shooting, city defense with a cursor-aimed crosshair, block breaking, and tube-shooting action. The games are selected from a menu and can be played individually, with high score tracking and two-player alternating play in the titles that originally supported it. Controls are mapped to the PlayStation pad, and the collection also includes background information on the arcade originals.
