Dancing with the Stars is a PlayStation 2 game based on the televised ballroom dancing competition. Play follows the rhythm-game pattern used by dance-mat titles: on-screen prompts appear in time with the music and you match them with steps, with your timing scored and presented as judges' marks in the style of the show. Routines cover ballroom and Latin dance styles set to accompanying music, and progressing through a competition mode pits you against other couples across successive rounds. Two players can compete against each other, and difficulty options adjust how demanding the step patterns are. The game supports a dance mat, and a standard controller can be used instead. Presentation borrows the ballroom staging and scoring format familiar from the television series.
