The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match is an expanded version of KOF '98, released for PlayStation 2. It keeps the three-on-three team battle structure, where fighters are sent out one at a time until a team runs out of members, and retains the choice between two control and gauge styles: one that charges the power meter through attacking and stores stocks, and one that lets you build meter manually for stronger temporary states. Ultimate Match widens the character roster beyond the original release, adds reworked stages and music, and adjusts move properties and balance. Alongside the arcade ladder and two-player versus, the game includes practice tools, a survival-style challenge and gallery content. Team selection is unrestricted, so you can mix fighters from any of the series' groups.
