Need for Speed Carbon is a street racing game for the PlayStation 2 set in a city and the canyon roads above it. The career divides the map into territories you claim by winning races, and you recruit crew members who ride along and provide help such as blocking rivals or scouting shortcuts. Canyon duels are a distinct event type, pitting you against a rival in two runs down narrow mountain roads where following closely and then holding a lead determine the winner. Cars are grouped into classes including tuners, muscle and exotics, and the Autosculpt system lets you reshape body parts as well as apply paint, vinyls and performance upgrades. Race types include circuits, sprints, drifting and checkpoint runs, with police appearing during events in the city.
