Okage: Shadow King is a turn-based role-playing game with a comic tone. You play as Ari, an unremarkable boy whose family summons an arrogant demon called Stan, the Evil King, to cure his sister of a curse. In exchange, Stan takes possession of Ari's shadow and enlists him as a servant, and the two travel together so Stan can reclaim his reputation by defeating the impostor evil kings who have taken his place. Battles are turn-based encounters with a party of characters, using physical attacks, magic and items. Exploration takes you through towns and dungeons in a stylised world rendered with strong shadows, distorted perspectives and unusual camera angles. Much of the game's character comes from its dialogue, with Stan boasting and belittling Ari as the story progresses.
