Open Season is a GameCube action platformer based on the animated film of the same name. You control Boog, a bear who has lived comfortably near people, and Elliot, a talkative deer, as they make their way through forest and woodland environments. Play involves running and jumping through linear stages, brawling with basic attacks, gathering collectibles and clearing simple obstacle sequences. Some sections switch characters or add variations such as riding and chase segments to break up the platforming. Boss encounters and hunters appear as opposition along the way. Cutscenes and voiced dialogue carry the story between levels, following the film's plot and characters. The difficulty and control scheme are pitched at younger players, with straightforward objectives and frequent checkpoints.
