Outlaw Tennis on PlayStation 2 applies the Outlaw series formula to court tennis. You pick from a cast of loud, cartoonishly styled players, each with their own stats and personality, and compete in singles and doubles matches on a range of surfaces. Controls cover topspin, slice and lob shots, with timing and positioning determining accuracy and power, plus special or powered-up shots that build up over a rally. Players trade insults during matches, and a composure system tied to your character's mood affects performance. Options include exhibition matches, tournament play and local multiplayer. The tone is deliberately irreverent, with rude commentary and over-the-top character designs sitting on top of straightforward arcade tennis mechanics.
