Phantom Brave is a tactical RPG for the PlayStation 2 from the studio behind Disgaea. You play as Marona, a young girl who can see and speak with phantoms, and her companion Ash, a spirit bound to her. Battles drop the grid used by most strategy games in favour of free movement within a set range, and units are brought onto the field by confining phantoms to objects and terrain features found in each map. The item a phantom is bound to alters its stats and abilities, and units eventually vanish after a set number of turns. Between battles you manage a home base, take on missions and craft or fuse equipment. The story is told through character portraits and voiced dialogue, following Marona's work as a freelance troubleshooter.
