Ratchet: Deadlocked is a PlayStation 2 entry in the series that shifts the emphasis from platforming to sustained combat. Ratchet is captured and forced to compete in DreadZone, a televised gladiatorial contest, with commentators narrating the action as you fight through arenas and mission-based challenges. You are accompanied by two combat bots that you can upgrade and order to operate switches, hack terminals and assist in fights. Weapons are bought with bolts and improved through mods that add effects such as extra damage or elemental attacks, and both weapons and armour level up as you use them. Missions are grouped into tiers, with side challenges and optional objectives alongside the main ones. The game supports cooperative play so a second player can take part in the campaign, plus competitive multiplayer modes.
