Resident Evil 2 for Nintendo 64 is a cartridge conversion of the survival horror game originally released on two CDs. You play as Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield during the outbreak in Raccoon City, exploring the police station, sewers and a laboratory across pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed cameras and tank-style controls. Completing one character's campaign opens a second scenario for the other, with different encounters and item placement. Resource management is central: ammunition and healing sprays are limited, inventory slots are few, and saving depends on ink ribbons. This version adds options not present in the original release, including adjustable blood colour and control settings, plus extra in-game documents that expand on the story surrounding Umbrella. Voice work and full-motion video are compressed to fit the cartridge format.
