Super Smash Bros. is a fighting game for the Nintendo 64 built around characters from across Nintendo's franchises. Instead of draining health bars, you build up an opponent's damage percentage with attacks; the higher it climbs, the further they fly when hit, and the aim is to knock them off the edges of the stage. Up to four players can fight at once on stages themed after Nintendo games, with platforms, hazards and moving scenery. Items drop into matches at adjustable frequency, from projectiles to power-ups. Controls are simple, using a direction plus one of two attack buttons to produce different moves, along with shielding, grabbing and recovery jumps. A single-player route and various time and stock rules round out the modes.
