Earthworm Jim 2 is a platform sequel in which you again control a worm in a powered suit. Jim runs, jumps, fires his blaster and whips his head to attack enemies or swing from hooks, and this time he can also glide using a helicopter-style attachment and collect several alternative weapons with distinct firing patterns. The game is built around variety: standard side-scrolling levels sit alongside stages that change the format completely, including sections with their own rules, goals and control schemes rather than straightforward running and shooting. Levels are drawn in a detailed cartoon style with heavy sprite animation, and bosses are oversized characters with set attack patterns to learn. The humour is slapstick throughout, from enemy designs to the between-level presentation.
