Hellfire is a horizontal scrolling shoot-'em-up on the Sega Genesis. You pilot a lone starfighter through waves of enemy craft and heavily armed installations, dodging bullet patterns and clearing bosses at the end of each stage. Its defining mechanic is directional firepower: rather than only shooting straight ahead, you switch your main weapon between different firing angles, including forward, vertical and diagonal, and choosing the right one for the enemy formation in front of you is the core of play. Power-ups increase weapon strength, and dying costs you upgrades, so survival depends on learning enemy placement. Backgrounds move through space stations, caverns and mechanical fortresses. It is a fast, pattern-driven arcade shooter of the kind the Genesis library is known for, playable in short attempts.
