Quartet is a side-scrolling shooter-platformer from Sega, adapted for the Master System from the arcade original. You move through corridors and open chambers of a space station, shooting waves of robotic and alien enemies while jumping between platforms and picking up a jetpack that lets you hover and reach higher ground. Each stage is built around finding the key needed to open the exit, then dealing with the boss that guards the way onward. Weapon power-ups dropped by defeated enemies improve your firepower and shot spread, and a timer keeps you moving rather than clearing rooms at leisure. Character sprites are large and the levels are laid out for lateral exploration as much as straight-line progress. The Master System conversion is a single- and two-player version of the arcade design.
