Shanghai brings mahjong solitaire to the Sega Master System. Tiles are stacked in a layered layout, and your job is to clear the board by removing matching pairs. A tile can only be taken if it is free on its left or right side and has nothing resting on top of it, so the order you pick matters as much as spotting the matches themselves. Remove the wrong pair early and the remaining tiles can end up locked, leaving the layout unfinishable. You move a cursor over the stack with the controller, and the game shows which tiles are currently available. There is no time pressure in the usual sense; the challenge comes from reading the layers and planning several removals ahead. A quiet, puzzle-focused title for solo play.
