Ace Combat Advance brings the series' aerial combat to the Game Boy Advance. You fly mission-based sorties, taking off with a selected aircraft and loadout to shoot down enemy planes and destroy ground and naval targets within mission objectives. Rather than the full 3D engine of the console games, the handheld version uses the GBA's hardware for a scaled-down presentation, with a behind-the-aircraft view, radar for tracking targets and simplified controls for turning, throttle, guns and missiles. Briefings introduce each mission and set out what you need to accomplish, and completing sorties progresses you through the campaign. The core loop stays close to the series formula: locate targets, manage limited missiles, avoid incoming fire and finish objectives before running out of time or aircraft integrity.
