AH-3 Thunderstrike is a helicopter combat game for Sega CD. You fly an attack helicopter through a series of missions across varied theatres, using cannon fire, rockets and guided missiles against ground targets, armour, emplacements and enemy aircraft. The view sits behind and slightly above your helicopter, and flight handling sits between arcade shooting and simulation, asking you to manage altitude, speed and ammunition while lining up attack runs. Missions come with objectives to destroy or protect specific targets, and the CD format is used for briefing sequences and a soundtrack that plays over the action. Terrain is rendered with flat, fast polygons, giving open landscapes to fly across as you approach objectives. Survival depends on staying aware of incoming fire and using the terrain rather than flying straight at defended positions.
