Asteroids on Game Boy Color is a handheld take on Atari's arcade shooter. You pilot a ship in an enclosed field of drifting rocks, rotating, thrusting and firing to break large asteroids into smaller fragments before they collide with you, while enemy saucers appear to complicate matters. The core controls stay close to the original: momentum carries your ship after you stop thrusting, and screen edges wrap around. This version updates the presentation with color graphics rather than the arcade's vector lines, and structures play into a progression of stages instead of a single endless field. Power-ups and pickups appear as you clear rocks, adding weapon and shield variations. Play is single-player and score-driven, with difficulty building as the screen fills with debris.
