Blades of Steel on Game Boy Color is a handheld take on Konami's arcade-style ice hockey. Play is fast and simplified rather than simulation-focused, with small on-screen teams, quick passing and shooting, and short periods. You skate up the ice, pass to open teammates, and line up shots on goal, switching to defence and body checks when you lose the puck. Fights can break out between players, and penalty shots and shootouts settle certain situations. Modes cover exhibition games and tournament-style play against the computer, and the game supports head-to-head play with a link cable. Presentation uses a top-down or angled view of the rink with colour graphics and the arcade-style sound cues the series is known for.
