Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck is a side-scrolling platformer set in a comic prehistoric world. This time you play as Chuck's son, Junior, who sets out to rescue his kidnapped father. Junior carries a club, which he uses to whack enemies, smash obstacles and knock objects around as you work through stages filled with dinosaurs, cavemen and jungle hazards. Movement mixes running and jumping with the usual platform-game business of timed leaps, moving platforms and boss encounters at the end of areas. The art style is heavily cartoonish, with exaggerated animation and slapstick humor in the character designs. This Sega CD version makes use of the disc format for its audio soundtrack alongside the standard platforming action.
