Clockwork Knight is a side-scrolling platformer for the Sega Saturn. You play as Pepper, a wind-up toy soldier who explores a house at night once the toys have come to life. Levels use 2D platforming laid over 3D-rendered backgrounds, with the action taking place among shelves, kitchens, toy boxes and other oversized household settings. Pepper's key-shaped weapon is used to knock enemies loose, and you can pick up stunned foes, boxes and other objects and throw them to clear a path or hit switches. Stages are built around climbing, jumping between platforms and finding items hidden in the scenery, and boss encounters cap off the areas. The presentation leans on bright colours, animated toy characters and a cartoon-styled soundtrack.
