Cobra Command on Sega CD is a full-motion video shooting game in which you pilot an attack helicopter through animated missions. The action plays out over pre-drawn animation rather than a rendered 3D world: you watch the footage unfold and respond with directional inputs to steer clear of buildings, terrain and obstacles, and fire on enemy aircraft, vehicles and installations as they appear. Correct inputs keep the scene progressing, while mistakes lead to a crash and a lost life. Missions take you over cities, canyons, water and other locations, with on-screen cues indicating when and where to react. The emphasis is on timing and pattern recognition through repeated attempts rather than free exploration, and the presentation uses the CD format for animated cutscenes and voice work.
