Columns is a falling-block puzzle game for the Sega Master System. Columns of three coloured jewels descend into a well, and you rotate the order of the jewels within the falling piece as you position it. Matching three or more of a colour in a row, column or diagonal clears those jewels, and the stack above drops down to fill the space, allowing chain clears. Magic jewels turn up now and then and remove every gem of the colour they land on. The drop speed increases as you play, and the game ends when the well overflows. Alongside the standard endless game there are alternative modes and a two-player option. This is the 8-bit version of Sega's puzzle game, with a simplified presentation compared with later releases.
