Crypt Killer is a light gun shooter adapted from the arcade original. You advance automatically along a fixed path through crypts, caves and other horror settings, shooting skeletons, insects, mummies and larger creatures as they close in from all sides. Alongside your standard shots you have limited heavier ammunition for dealing with groups, and shooting objects in the environment can uncover items hidden in the scenery. Levels are short, ending in encounters with oversized bosses, and a second player can join for simultaneous co-operative shooting. The Saturn version can be played with the system's light gun peripheral or with a standard controller for on-screen aiming. Visually it uses digitised sprite enemies over pre-rendered backgrounds, keeping the presentation of the coin-op version.
