D2 is a horror adventure for the Dreamcast, spread across multiple discs. You play as Laura, a survivor of a plane crash in the frozen wilderness of northern Canada, who wakes in a cabin and sets out into the snow to find out what has happened to the other passengers. The game mixes styles: story sequences play out in lengthy cinematic scenes, exploration takes place across a snowbound overworld, and travel is interrupted by first-person battles against mutated creatures where you fight using firearms. Between encounters you manage supplies, rest, hunt, and cook to keep Laura going, and stat growth carries over as you progress. The tone is bleak and deliberate, with long stretches of quiet exploration punctuated by body-horror imagery and an unfolding mystery about the source of the transformations.
