Dragon Warrior III on Game Boy Color is a handheld version of the third Dragon Quest game. You play the child of the hero Ortega, setting out from Aliahan to take up your father's quest, and you build your own party by creating companions and assigning them classes such as warrior, mage and priest. Characters can change class later, carrying learned spells with them, which encourages long-term planning. Combat is turn-based with a menu interface and first-person enemy views. A day and night cycle changes what happens in towns, with some events and shops only available after dark. Ships and later travel options open up a large world map to explore, and the story eventually leads to a confrontation with Zoma. Progress is saved to the cartridge.
