Dynasty Warriors Advance is a Game Boy Advance take on Koei's Three Kingdoms series, adapting the battlefield combat to the handheld with an overhead view. You control an officer moving across a map of connected areas, fighting enemy troops and officers in real time with combo attacks and a special attack that hits multiple foes at once. Alongside the action, there is a layer of positioning and objective management: bases can change hands, allied units fight elsewhere on the map, and battles are won or lost based on how the wider field develops rather than only your own kills. Characters gain stats and equipment as you play, and different officers are available to take through the campaign, each with their own weapon and moveset.
