This is the Sega CD version of Ecco the Dolphin, an underwater action-adventure in which you play a dolphin searching for his missing pod. You swim through side-view ocean environments, managing your air supply by surfacing regularly, using echolocation to map surroundings and speak with other sea life, and charging into hazards to attack. Progress involves navigating tight cave passages, reading glyphs that gate your path, and solving environmental puzzles while avoiding sharks, jellyfish and other threats. The CD release keeps the structure of the Genesis game while taking advantage of the format's audio capability for its soundtrack. Movement is momentum-based and takes practice, and levels are large enough that learning routes is part of the challenge.
