You create and play as Corrin, torn between the kingdom of Nohr, where Corrin was raised, and Hoshido, the land of Corrin's birth; in Conquest you fight for Nohr. Combat is turn-based strategy on grid maps, with the choice of classic permadeath or casual mode and a difficulty setting chosen at the outset. Support conversations build bonds between units, leading to marriage and second-generation characters, and the Pair Up system lets two units occupy one space and fight together. Conquest limits free grinding, so your army develops largely through the story chapters, and its maps place heavy emphasis on varied objectives rather than simply routing the enemy. The My Castle hub houses shops, facilities and unit interactions.
