Galaxy Force on the Master System adapts Sega's third-person shooter to 8-bit hardware. You sit behind your fighter craft as the view rushes forward, steering across the screen to dodge terrain and incoming fire while shooting enemies and locking on to targets. Stages take you over planetary surfaces and into enclosed tunnels and corridors where walls close in and leave narrow gaps to thread. Your energy gauge serves as both health and a time limit, draining as you fly and dropping faster when you take hits, so reaching the end of a stage quickly matters. Boss targets wait at the close of each area. The game is single-player, with the emphasis on reaction and reading the road ahead rather than on complex controls.
