Gauntlet Legends on Dreamcast is a 3D action dungeon crawler viewed from above. You pick a fantasy character class, each with a different balance of melee, ranged and magic ability, and work through themed realms filled with monster generators, traps, locked doors and boss fights. Health ticks down as you play, so food pickups sit alongside keys, potions and gold as things worth chasing. Heroes gain experience levels, and gold can be spent between stages to raise stats such as strength, armour and speed, with progress saved so a character develops over time. Elemental weapon pickups and special items give temporary changes to your attacks. Several players can share the screen in co-operative play, splitting the items that drop between them. The emphasis throughout is on crowd control, moving while firing and building up a hero across many levels.
