The Sega CD release of Hook adapts the film into a side-scrolling action platformer in which you control Peter as he makes his way through Neverland toward a confrontation with Captain Hook. You run and jump through themed stages, swing a sword at pirates and other enemies, and collect items hidden along the routes, with boss encounters closing out sections. As a Sega CD title it makes use of the add-on's disc storage, so the audio is streamed rather than generated by the console's sound chip, and presentation includes still and animated sequences drawn from the story between stages. Play is otherwise built on familiar platforming fundamentals: reading enemy patterns, timing jumps over hazards and searching areas for pickups before moving on.
