Iron Helix is a science-fiction exploration game for the Sega CD. A research vessel has been overrun and its automated defenses have gone hostile, and you never set foot aboard yourself. Instead you direct small remote probes through the ship's corridors from a command interface, steering them between rooms to scan terminals, gather data and collect DNA samples needed to shut the threat down. A lethal defense drone patrols the same corridors, and if it finds a probe it destroys it, so much of the game is about tracking its position and routing around it. Movement between locations plays out in rendered corridor sequences, and information you recover is pieced together from ship logs and computer records. The pace is deliberate and puzzle-driven rather than action-focused, with tension coming from limited probes and an ever-present hunter.
