Joe and Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics is a Super Nintendo action platformer continuing the prehistoric caveman series. You run, jump and throw weapons through side-scrolling stages populated by dinosaurs, insects and other prehistoric threats, with boss creatures closing out levels. Alongside the action, the game adds light adventure elements: your village acts as a hub where you can talk to characters and spend money collected in stages on items and upgrades that help in later areas, and a world map connects the destinations you travel between. Weapons are thrown at range and can be swapped as you find new ones, and one or two players can take part. The presentation keeps the cartoonish caveman look, with colourful jungle, cave and tropical environments.
