Kendo Rage is a side-scrolling action game for the Super Nintendo. You control a schoolgirl who is enrolled in kendo training and finds herself fighting through stages populated by strange creatures, using her bamboo sword for close-range attacks. Play centres on running, jumping and striking enemies as levels scroll, with boss encounters closing out stages. Power-ups and special attacks expand your options as you progress. The Western release reworks the presentation and dialogue of the Japanese original into a comedic school-life framing, with between-level text sequences delivered by the heroine and her instructor. Visually it uses bright, cartoon-styled sprites and backgrounds, and difficulty comes largely from enemy placement and timing your short-reach attacks.
