The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night on Game Boy Advance is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer tied to the console game of the same name, and the second chapter of the Legend of Spyro story. You control Spyro as he continues to develop his elemental powers, switching between breath attacks and melee strikes to fight enemies and clear obstacles. Stages combine platforming, combat encounters and boss fights, with gliding and charging used for movement. Items gathered during levels go toward improving Spyro's abilities, and Sparx the dragonfly appears alongside him as in the console releases. Story sequences are presented with artwork and text between stages. The handheld version reworks the console game's plot and locations into hand-drawn sprite levels rather than reproducing them directly.
