MegaRace on Sega CD combines racing with vehicle combat, using pre-rendered full-motion video for its tracks so the road ahead plays back as video while you steer your car across it. Rather than simply finishing first, your goal is to run down and destroy the rival drivers ahead of you, using mounted weapons alongside speed and positioning. Between events a live-action host presents the races in the style of a television game show, addressing you directly with introductions and commentary on your performance. The presentation is heavily video-driven, taking advantage of the CD format for the track footage, host segments and audio. Handling is built around the fixed camera path of the rendered course, so learning the layout of each track matters as much as reaction speed.
