Mickey Mania is a side-scrolling platformer for the Sega CD that sends Mickey Mouse through recreations of his own cartoons. Each stage is styled after a different short, beginning with a black-and-white era level and moving through settings such as a haunted house, a moose hunt and a beanstalk climb, with the art direction changing to match the period being parodied. Mickey runs, jumps and bounces off enemies, and can pick up and throw marbles to deal with them from a distance. Levels mix straightforward platforming with chase sequences, scaling effects and set pieces that push the camera around, and each closes with a boss or escape. Health and continues are limited, so learning the routes through the trickier stretches is part of the game.
