Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is a 3D action-adventure game for the Nintendo 64. You play as Goemon, with Ebisumaru, Sasuke, and Yae joining the party as the story progresses; each has their own attacks and abilities, and you switch between them to solve obstacles and reach new areas. Play moves between hub towns where you talk to residents, buy items, and take on side tasks, and combat-focused dungeons built around platforming, puzzles, and boss fights. Money collected from enemies and pots is spent on equipment and upgrades. At certain points the game shifts perspective entirely for battles aboard the giant robot Impact, fought from a behind-the-back view with punches and long-range attacks. The tone is comedic throughout, with a feudal Japan setting, cartoonish characters, and voiced musical numbers.
